Here are the reasons why your shoe size changes during pregnancy

 !

1. Pregnancy-induced edema: Water retention during pregnancy can cause edema and make changes in your foot size and shape. Your feet and toes can swell along with your fingers and palms at times. Sometimes, edema is also caused due to low protein or low haemoglobin level in your diet. However, this condition is harmless and fades away when you drink enough water or when you keep your legs elevated. For some women,pregnancy-induced edema can change their feet size and shape forever. 2. Hormonal changes: Relaxtin is a hormone that helps your body gear up for labour. It loosens the joints and ligaments to make them flexible. The the effects of relaxtin is not just restricted to the pelvic area,so it doesn’t spare the feet. Hence, the ligaments and joints in your legs loosen up, making the arch of your feet flatten a bit and widen in breadth. And it might not return to its normal size again.

3. Weight gain: Pregnancy weight gain doesn’t directly affect your foot size, but it does have some affects on it. If you are putting on too much weight, it can exert pressure on your feet, causing your joints to flatten and widen further. What you can do when you see that you aren’t able to fit into your peep-toes anymore, you go shoe shopping.
